Gourmet

You can enjoy delicious food from all parts of the world in New Caledonia.

Savour world-renowned French cuisine with exotic food and wine flown directly from France. Watch the world pass by from an outdoor café as you enjoy freshly-baked croissants, baguettes and pastries.

Enjoy delicious fresh tropical fruits and seafood. Lay back and enjoy a picnic on a secluded beach or an elegant gourmet dinner fanned by gentle trade winds.

In fact, there are around 150 restaurants in Nouméa alone, catering for all tastes and budgets. As well as French, your international menu includes Italian, Indonesian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese or traditional Melanesian cuisine. Noumea now also boasts a superb revolving restaurant on the 18th floor of the new Ramada Plaza Hotel offering fantastic 360 degree views. There is even a McDonalds.

Join the locals in one of the many bars, cafes or nightclubs. Or try your luck at one of the Casinos.

However, rather than eating out all of the time, why not visit one of the many modern supermarkets where a wide range of freshly baked breads, quality meats and fresh fruit and vegetables are available and make your own picnic instead?

You should also try the traditional Melanesian dish called bougna : a mix of either chicken, lobster or fish and vegetables (yam, sweet potatoes, bananas, etc.) in coconut milk, wrapped in banana leaves and cooked in the traditional Melanesian earth oven - over hot stones in the ground.

New Caledonia is a diverse and delicious experience. Bon appetit!
